New Depression

about

I wrote this song for a course in American Studies I took during grad school. I conducted an ethnographic study on African American security guards who lost their employment during the housing crisis. For the paper, I won The Weaver Prize award. The song was part of the final where we had to present an academic work for general audiences. That version was acoustic but this version has a full band and omits the third verse because I didn't feel right taking on the voice of an African American for purely artistic purposes and I hope my empathy is at least felt for those guys who were really screwed over.
